Yorkshire Day, celebrated annually on August 1, brings communities together across the county with a series of events in Wakefield and Ilkley.
The occasion, first marked by the Yorkshire Ridings Society in 1975 and officially recognized since 1985, highlights the region's heritage, history, landscape, and people.
Celebrations in Wakefield and Ilkley
In Wakefield, Pontefract, and Castleford, the day features historic town explorations, regional food tastings, market visits, and family-friendly activities.
Ilkley’s Yorkshire Day Celebration Weekend transforms The Grove into a two-day festival with free live music, Yorkshire food and drink, and community events.
Organisers promise more than 20 hours of live entertainment, a Yorkshire Market with local traders, street food, brewery sampling, and a festive atmosphere.
On Saturday at 11.30am, the traditional Yorkshire Day Proclamation takes place at Station Plaza, featuring Ilkley’s anthem “On Ilkla Moor Baht ‘at” and a reading by Town Crier Isabel Ashman.
Music performances run until 10pm across Ilkley Live’s Main Stage, Acoustic Stage, and the historic Bandstand.
Dan Hammond said, “Ilkley Live is incredibly proud to be curating the music programme for Ilkley’s Yorkshire Day Celebration for the second consecutive year.
Across two stages on Saturday, and the bandstand on Sunday, visitors can enjoy an outstanding line-up, with performances continuing right through until 10pm.
From choirs and spoken word to jazz, folk and rock, there really is something for everyone.”
All three of Ilkley’s breweries—Bini Brew Co, Ilkley Brewery, and Wharfedale Brewery—will serve local beers throughout Saturday’s celebrations.
The Yorkshire Market opens from 10am to 9pm on Saturday, with a larger Sunday market from 10am to 3pm, offering artisan food and handmade crafts.
Families can enjoy a children’s area at Canker Wells on Saturday from 10am to 4pm, along with street performers and walkabout acts in the town centre.

The Yorkshire Day Celebration Weekend brings our community together to showcase the very best of Ilkley from our talented musicians and local businesses to our fantastic independent traders, breweries and volunteers.

Organisers also acknowledge support from Ilkley Town Council for free entertainment for young people.
Events extend beyond The Grove, including a Yorkshire-themed East Holmes parkrun at 9am on Saturday and traditional maypole dancing at Ilkley Manor House.
