Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis will miss the start of training camp and the team's preseason opener because of an undisclosed health issue.
General manager Mike Dunleavy announced the decision on Monday, September 28, 2026, in San Francisco, ruling Porzingis out indefinitely.
The organization is keeping the specific details private.
Porzingis will not travel with the team to Hawai'i, sitting out at least four practices and Sunday's preseason game against the LA Clippers in Honolulu.
Dunleavy: 'He's Just Not Available This Week'
"I'm not marking him down as being out to start the season or anything like that," Dunleavy said.
"He's just not available this week."
The setback continues a pattern for Porzingis, who missed 90 games over the previous two regular seasons after a persistent upper respiratory viral illness contracted while playing for the Boston Celtics in late February 2025.
After arriving via trade from the Atlanta Hawks last February, he missed 10 of his first 11 games with Golden State before returning to play in 16 of the final 21 contests.
Despite those health concerns, Golden State signed Porzingis to a two-year, $40 million contract extension over the summer.
The deal includes only $3 million in guaranteed money for the second season to preserve salary cap flexibility.
Before Sunday night, team officials expressed optimism about Porzingis' recovery as he worked out at the team's San Francisco facility and appeared set for full participation before Dunleavy received an update on his condition.
"He's been participating in everything," Dunleavy said. "It just kind of popped up."
The roster setback adds to existing injury concerns for Golden State, as starting wings Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody remain sidelined while recovering from serious knee injuries.
"We feel comfortable with everything [about Porzingis' status]," Dunleavy said.
"Disappointed that he won't be out there [when training camp starts Tuesday], but it's early, so don't want to overreact to anything."
