The TJX Company is expanding its TJ Maxx footprint nationwide, adding 11 net new stores in the first half of fiscal 2027, which ended August 1, 2026.

The growth comes despite the closure of three East Coast locations earlier this year, according to company reports and statements.

The brand's total store count reached 1,359 by August 1, a net gain of five stores in the second quarter alone.

Parent company The TJX Company operates over 5,300 retail locations across 10 countries, including Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense, and Sierra.

Closures and New Openings

Concerns about widespread cutbacks arose after reports from CBS News, Fast Company, Inc., and local outlets about three East Coast closures.

The closed sites include a storefront on Newbury Street in Boston, Massachusetts, and locations in Silver Spring and Cumberland, Maryland.

Media in other regions, including Michigan, confirmed local stores remain unaffected.

Retail executives clarified that no additional closures are planned beyond those three.

The company launched five new TJ Maxx venues in August across Arkansas, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, and Virginia.

An September opening in Iowa followed, with nine additional locations scheduled to open on or before November 1.

Upcoming store openings include sites in Charlotte, North Carolina; Waco and Portland, Texas; Ponderay, Idaho; Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; Payson, Arizona; Destin, Florida; and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Global retail strategy favors long-term growth across all company banners, according to corporate communications provided to news outlets.

"In the first half of Fiscal 2027, we opened 71 net new stores across our global retail banners, including 11 net new TJ Maxx stores, and expect to continue adding stores in the back half of the year," The TJX Company said in a statement.

Corporate leadership aims to accelerate global expansion through upcoming fiscal cycles.

"Further, in August, we announced that we are planning to accelerate our store openings to 4% starting next year and that we believe we can grow our overall global store base to a total of 7,500 stores in our existing retail banners in our current countries over the long term," The TJX Company said in a statement.

The company continues updating its upcoming location schedule via its official online directory.
