Black Clover has returned with a second season that puts greater emphasis on animation quality and a more measured production schedule.
The sequel premiered on October 3, 2026, more than five years after the original television series concluded.
Voice actors Gakuto Kajiwara and Nobuhiko Okamoto described the creative effort behind the new season in an interview with Mantan Web.
Voice Cast Credits Extra Production Time
Kajiwara, who voices Asta, said the additional production time helped the new season reach a higher level of visual quality.
He contrasted the sequel's schedule with the original anime's continuous run, noting that the earlier series was produced in a concentrated stretch.
"I spoke with the director about this, and while we produced all 170 episodes of Season 1 back-to-back in one go, this time we've been able to take our time with the production, so I feel like even more effort has gone into it," Kajiwara said.
Okamoto, the voice of Liebe, the anti-magic devil residing in Asta's grimoire, also praised the finished footage, particularly its battle sequences.
"There is a shared feeling that we should 'surpass our limits' not just individually, but through 'teamwork.'
In order to create something even more entertaining than Season 1, everyone is tackling this with the resolve to 'aim even higher,'" Okamoto said.
The production change comes as the adaptation moves into the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, which features major confrontations involving some of the manga's strongest characters.
According to CBR's October 9 report, the new season's opening episode received praise for its animation and pacing.
The seasonal release format replaces the original anime's uninterrupted weekly broadcast.
The earlier adaptation ended in 2021 after catching up with the available source material, while the manga by Yuki Tabata continued its publication before moving from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump GIGA.
Director Ayataka Tanemura also discussed the team's approach to combat scenes at Anime Expo 2026, stating that the staff had worked to make the battles "extra cool" in keeping with Tabata's wishes.
The larger-scale action expected in the remaining story presents a significant production challenge for the returning animation team.
Season 2's second episode, the 172nd overall, is scheduled to premiere on October 10, 2026.
According to Anime Corner, the preview features Mereoleona confronting a demon in the Spade Kingdom, while the Magic Knights divide into groups to face the Dark Triad.
Charlotte battles Vanica, Yuno faces Zenon, and Jack and Nacht confront Dante.
Studio Pierrot continues to produce the anime, with Keiichiro Ochi handling series composition, Itsuko Takeda overseeing character design, and Minako Seki composing the music.
WANIMA performs the opening theme, titled "Kienai Riyuu," translated as "The Reason That Won't Disappear."
Crunchyroll streams the television series worldwide.
