Sonya Curry has responded publicly to renewed scrutiny of her 2021 divorce from former NBA player Dell Curry, following her recent remarriage announcement.
On October 9, 2026, Stephen Curry's mother addressed the issue on Instagram after a social media account shared news of her wedding.
She directed her response to TheYBF_Daily, an Instagram account with 347,000 followers, which had posted about her marriage.
According to the original report published by Yardbarker, which republished an article from EssentiallySports, Sonya had also disabled comments on her own wedding announcement.
In her message, Sonya objected to the renewed attention surrounding the separation and its associated allegations.
"This is exactly why people don’t want to share good news with others!" Sonya Curry wrote on Instagram.
She continued by asking the account to concentrate on current events and disputing how the allegations surrounding her former marriage had been characterized.
"Can you just share what is happening now and leave the past in the past! For the record, Dell I didn’t cite that Dell cheated with multiple women!
Our family has been through enough and are finally moving forward and this stuff is sooooooo unnecessary!" Sonya Curry wrote.
Sonya's remarriage announcement featured photographs from a ceremony at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Arizona.
She has not publicly disclosed her new husband's identity, while her message accompanying the wedding photographs reflected on faith, grief, and finding love again.
The renewed attention also revisited the circumstances of the couple's separation.
Sonya and Dell met at Virginia Tech and married in 1988, the year their eldest son, Stephen, was born.
They later welcomed Seth in 1990 and their daughter, Sydel, in 1994.
Sonya filed for divorce in June 2021, citing marital misconduct, according to the original report.
Dell disputed her account and alleged that she had an affair with Steven Johnson, a former New England Patriots tight end.
Sonya acknowledged her relationship with Johnson but maintained that it began after she and Dell separated in March 2020.
The competing accounts became part of the public discussion surrounding the end of their 33-year marriage.
Stephen Curry addressed the personal impact of his parents' separation in a 2022 interview with The Ringer.
The Golden State Warriors star described the challenge of navigating the family changes while maintaining relationships with both parents.
Stephen reflected on the possibility of blaming his parents for the separation while also recognizing what they had contributed to his life.
"I could be mad and be like, ‘Y’all effed this up,’" Stephen Curry said.
He then explained how his upbringing shaped his response to the situation.
"The calmness I have in myself is because of y’all," Stephen Curry added.
Stephen said he wanted to remain present for both parents rather than allow their separation to determine his relationship with either of them.
Photographs from Sonya's wedding later showed Stephen and his wife, Ayesha Curry, alongside his brother Seth and Seth's wife, Callie Rivers.
Another image captured Stephen cheering as his eldest daughter, Riley Elizabeth Curry, danced at the celebration.
