Floodwaters from the Budhi Gandaki river corridor destroyed bridges, homes and livestock shelters in Chumnubri Rural Municipality of Gorkha, Nepal.

The destruction followed a landslide blockage near Philim that broke apart and sent water, mud and debris downstream, according to local authorities and disaster officials.

The blockage in Chumnubri Rural Municipality-3 gave way at around 4:30 am, causing extensive damage along settlements beside the river.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said river conditions remained dangerous, with fluctuating water levels.

Citing the Flood Forecasting Division, the NDRRMA classified the Trishuli River stretch up to Benighat as being at very high risk and the area up to Mugling as being at high risk.

Residents along parts of the Budhi Gandaki and Trishuli corridors were advised to remain alert.

Bridges and Homes Lost

According to the District Administration Office, three bridges were swept away, including the Machhikhola bridge linking Dharche Rural Municipality and the bridge connecting Soti in Arughat with Manbu.

A bridge between Nyakchet and Philim Bazaar in Ward 3 was also destroyed.

Home Minister Sudan Gurung said Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and local administration had mobilized rescue, relief and evacuation operations after flooding was reported from Chumnubri Rural Municipality.

Gurung said muddy floodwater entered houses in the Ghattekhola area and urged residents along the Budhi Gandaki river corridor to move to safer locations.

He also identified Sirdibas, Jagat, Salleri, Khorlabesi, Machhakhola, Soti, Arkhet and Arughat as areas requiring heightened caution.

The Nepal Army deployed search-and-rescue teams by air and land to assess affected locations and possible obstructions.

According to authorities, six people were airlifted from Jagat village, where landslide risks remained high.

A Composite Quick Response Team from Kathmandu advised residents in vulnerable riverside settlements to relocate.

Police Inspector Aakash Kandel of the Gorkha District Police Office said residents in several communities were advised to move to safer areas as a precaution.

According to Chumnubri Rural Municipality Vice-Chairperson Laxmi Gurung, floodwaters swept away 35 houses in Paiyu and Bagar villages.

Major damage was also reported in Dobhan, Ghattekhola, Jagat and Salleri, including market areas in Ward 3.

The District Administration Office reported that four sheds along Ungilung stream were washed away with 15 yaks and nak cattle.

Four herders who were caring for the animals remained unaccounted for while search efforts continued.

No human fatalities had been reported at the time of reporting, according to authorities.

Damage assessments and rescue operations were ongoing as officials monitored river levels and flood risks.
