Fenerbahce travel to Birmingham to meet Aston Villa at Villa Park in the second round of the UEFA Champions League on October 14, 2026.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 10 p. m.

Turkey time and will be broadcast on TRT 1.

Manager Ismail Kartal is targeting a positive result against the English Premier League side.

The Turkish club returned to Europe's premier club competition for the first time in 18 years.

According to BBC reporting, Fenerbahce opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Roma.

Aston Villa defeated Club Brugge 3-2 away from home in their opening match.

Fenerbahce arrived in strong domestic form after beating Eyupspor 8-0 and Caykur Rizespor 3-0 in their previous two matches.

Defender Mert Mulder was the team's only reported absence because of injury.

Preparations for the Aston Villa fixture began on October 11, with Marco Asensio, Mason Greenwood, Kerem, Vedat, Matteo Guendouzi, N'Golo Kante and Bartug among the players involved, according to Bolge Gundemi.

Kartal said his team had prepared for the tactical demands of facing a strong opponent and intended to return home with a result.

"We have worked well and trained well on how we should play against teams like this.

We want to get the result we are looking for and return home with it," said Kartal, Fenerbahce's head coach.

Kartal also acknowledged that Fenerbahce would have opportunities to recover if the match did not go as planned.

He pointed to upcoming home fixtures against Slavia Prague and Liverpool as further opportunities in the league phase.

Asked about Romelu Lukaku's fitness, he said the club would consult its medical staff before making a decision.

Villa's Reduced Home Advantage

Aston Villa faced the match amid concerns about their home form and ongoing construction at Villa Park.

The stadium's North Stand was closed as the club pursued expansion plans intended to increase capacity beyond 50,000.

The work had reduced the available capacity to approximately 37,000, leaving the team with fewer supporters in attendance.

Villa manager Unai Emery acknowledged the effect of the altered matchday environment but rejected the idea that it should excuse poor performances.

"Playing in front of fewer supporters in these conditions is a disadvantage for us. But the club made this decision.

It is a step that will put us in a better position in the future," said Emery.

Emery called for greater collective effort to compensate for the reduced attendance and emphasized that the team needed to improve its football, intensity and concentration.

He also said he was regularly reviewing performances with players through meetings, video analysis and training sessions.

"We must act together. With 7,000 fewer supporters in the stands, everyone must provide more support.

We have to play better football, compete harder and stay more focused. These things are more important than the stands.

We are realistically assessing how we work and how much we are improving. We are not good enough yet.

I speak with the team frequently, hold meetings, watch videos and work on things in training.

We try to show our progress on the pitch in every match," Emery said.

The construction comes as Villa attempt to regain the consistency they previously established at home.

Between November 2022 and January 2026, the club won 44 of 61 Premier League home matches and lost only eight, according to BBC figures.

Villa also recorded 15 consecutive home league victories between March and December 2023.

However, their recent results have been less convincing.

Arsenal and Nottingham Forest both won at Villa Park this season, while Brentford secured a draw.

Villa had recorded just one Premier League victory in their first six matches of the campaign and had conceded goals in all but one of their games.

Defender Matty Cash said the team needed to rediscover its previous level, particularly in European competition.

"Over the last few years, we have played brilliantly at home, especially in European matches. We need to get back to that level," said Cash.

Cash also recognized that the stadium environment had changed but insisted the players needed to adapt rather than use the construction as an excuse.

"I do not want to sound as though I am making excuses. Of course, we have to deal with these conditions.

Expanding the stands and the stadium is a very good thing. But it is clear that the atmosphere is different.

I will not sit here and talk as if nothing has changed. Even so, you have to deal with the conditions as they are.

You cannot make excuses. You have to play the match in front of you.

When the work is finished, it will be fantastic. But yes, the atmosphere is a little different right now," Cash said.

Cash described Fenerbahce as a difficult opponent and stressed the importance of winning home matches.

He said the club hoped to create a strong atmosphere despite having only three stands available to supporters.

"It will be a tough test against a good team. But these are matches we need to win," Cash said.

He added that Aston Villa had set high standards for themselves and wanted to maintain a competitive atmosphere at Villa Park during the construction period.

"We have set the bar at this level for ourselves. Hopefully, we can create a strong atmosphere even with only three stands," Cash said.

Fenerbahce's Attacking Options

Separate analysis published by Bolge Gundemi highlighted the importance of Asensio's leadership and the attacking contributions of Greenwood, Kerem and Vedat.

Commentator Levent Tuzemen argued that Fenerbahce could secure a result against Aston Villa, recalling that the Turkish side had missed an opportunity to win against Roma.

Analysts Bulent Timurlenk and Omer Urundul also emphasized attacking performance and midfield selection as key considerations ahead of the fixture.

"It would not be a surprise if Fenerbahce earned points against Aston Villa," Tuzemen said.

Aston Villa's European home record under Emery remained a source of confidence despite their recent domestic difficulties.

The club had lost only once at home in European competition under the Spanish manager, with that defeat coming against Olympiacos in the 2024 Europa Conference League semifinals.

Emery also ended the club's trophy drought by winning the Europa League in May.

Fenerbahce visit Aston Villa on October 14, 2026, seeking their first Champions League win as Villa contend with defensive problems and stadium construction.
