Top-seeded Victoria Mboko defeated fellow Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez in straight sets during the Strasbourg Open quarterfinals on Thursday, securing her spot in the tournament semifinals in France.

Mboko, the world No. 9 from Toronto, won both sets 6-4 in a match that lasted 1 hour and 32 minutes.

According to match statistics, Fernandez struggled with her serve, committing eight double faults and facing 11 break points.

Mboko broke Fernandez's serve four times.

Fernandez, ranked 24th, generated only three break point opportunities and broke Mboko's serve once.

Mboko now holds a perfect two-game career record against Fernandez on the WTA circuit, having previously beaten her in three sets during the Hong Kong Open semifinals last year.

Mboko entered the quarterfinals after a straight-sets victory over France's Lois Boisson, while Fernandez reached the round by defeating Poland's Magdalena Frech in three sets.

Mboko is scheduled to face world No. 33 Jaqueline Cristian of Romania in the semifinals on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 4:30 PM.

The second semifinal matchup features an all-American contest between world No. 39 Emma Navarro and world No. 30 Ann Li.

Both Canadian players are seeded for the upcoming Roland-Garros tournament.
