Lowe opened the scoring in the first inning, hitting a 3-2 fastball off the top of the left-field wall.
The hit was initially ruled an inside-the-park home run but later changed to a standard home run by the official scorer.
The Cardinals tied the game in the third when Iván Herrera hit a two-out home run.
Pittsburgh reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning. Rookie Konnor Griffin scored on a fielder's choice by Jake Mangum.
Griffin extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double.
He finished the series 6 for 13 and improved to 13 for 33 during his current streak, also recording a run and a stolen base.
The Pirates extended their lead in the sixth inning.

Former Cardinal Marcell Ozuna hit a one-out single that brought home Spencer Horwitz and Griffin, making the score 4-1.
Henry Davis hit a leadoff home run in the seventh inning. Bryan Reynolds drove in another run with a groundout to extend the advantage to 5-1.
St. Louis scored its final run in the eighth inning when Herrera crossed the plate on a single by Jordan Walker.
Pirates starting pitcher Braxton Ashcraft earned the win to move to 3-2 on the season.
He struck out nine batters while allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings.
Cardinals starter Dustin May took the loss to fall to 3-5.
He allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

The Pirates are scheduled to start right-hander Bubba Chandler on Friday in Toronto. The Cardinals will send right-hander Kyle Leahy to the mound against the Cincinnati Reds.
