Thousands of cycling enthusiasts gathered at the Coriopolis terrain in Heerlen on Saturday, May 30, 2026, for the 33rd edition of the annual Obvion Limburgs Mooiste tour through the South Limburg hills.
Organizers expected between 12,000 and 15,000 participants to take part in the event, which featured multiple routes and staggered start times to manage traffic congestion on local roads.

Heat Precautions and New Gravel Route
Due to unseasonably warm weather, organizers maintained close contact with the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and the regional safety authority to ensure participant safety.
Cyclists received advance guidance on hydration and nutrition, with aid stations positioned every 30 kilometers to provide water, sports drinks, and food, as well as shaded areas for recovery.
The organization recommended that riders consume approximately one water bottle of fluids per hour and adapt their cycling pace to the heat.
This year's edition introduced a new 120-kilometer gravel route, splitting the existing gravel track into 80-kilometer and 120-kilometer options to accommodate a surge in discipline popularity.

"It is not a race, people should especially listen to their body and enjoy the day," said Jesse Linssen, organizer.
Linssen noted that registration remained open until shortly before the start and reported that the number of participants on the gravel routes had nearly doubled.
"Therefore, as an organization, we try to limit the crowd as much as possible by offering multiple routes, different starting times, a maximum number of participants per route and informing participants about traffic and behavioral rules," said the organization.
The various routes crossed multiple municipalities, including a family route passing through Leenhof in Landgraaf, where directional signs were installed along the paths.

In the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten, a standard route through Bemelen had to be diverted away from Laurentiusstraat due to local events, redirecting cyclists through the residential streets of Schepenbank, Kersenwei, and De Steeg.
