Liverpool Football Club has decided not to sell attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz to Chelsea during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to club sources on May 30, 2026.
The decision comes despite strong interest from incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, who officially starts at Stamford Bridge on July 1.

The Germany international joined Liverpool in the summer of 2025 after Fenway Sports Group spent £116 million to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz initially found it difficult to adjust to English football but completed his debut season with seven goals and 10 assists across 49 matches for the Reds.
Media outlets had reported that Alonso wanted Chelsea to secure Wirtz to strengthen a midfield potentially losing Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid.
Reports from Football Insider suggested Liverpool might consider a transfer, but internal stance at Anfield remains firm against a sale.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey provided clarity on the position of the Liverpool hierarchy regarding the future of the 23-year-old playmaker.
"Liverpool are not going to move on from Florian Wirtz, they worked so hard on that and the word from inside Anfield is the way he finished the season was a real plus point," said Graeme Bailey, transfer insider.
The club leadership acknowledged the initial adaptation struggles faced by the midfielder amid a broader squad transition.
"They know he struggled to adapt at first, but they had so many new players coming in – it was never going to be easy," Bailey said.
