The Tigers relied on Gleyber Torres and starting pitcher Framber Valdez, while Seattle countered with Bryan Woo.

Seattle opened the scoring in the first inning when Rob Refsnyder singled to bring home J. P.

Crawford, who had led off the game with a single.

Torres responded with a single for Detroit in the bottom of the inning, but the Tigers left him stranded after Kevin McGonigle grounded into a force out.

Valdez bounced back in the second inning by retiring the Mariners in order.

In the bottom half, Riley Greene singled but was later ruled out at first following a successful replay challenge by Seattle on a force out hit by Spencer Torkelson.

Crawford was hit by a pitch in the third inning and later exited the game before the bottom half.

He was doubled up on a ball hit by Julio Rodriguez. In the home half, Torres and McGonigle singled to put runners on the corners.

Dillon Dingler hit into a force out that scored Torres, tying the game before Kerry Carpenter hit a home run to right field, putting Detroit ahead 3-1.

Josh Naylor and Refsnyder started the fourth with consecutive singles for Seattle.
