Johnson received two quick technical fouls and was escorted from the floor by three police officers with 3:52 remaining in the third period.

He had been heatedly arguing an officiating call.

Assistant coach Emre Vatansever assumed coaching duties for Washington following the incident.

"I lost my cool," Johnson said. "There's nothing more than that.

That's it. Officials did what was appropriate, and that's all I can say."

The confrontation erupted after Washington's Alicia Florez Getino turned over the ball to Angel Reese and was subsequently called for a defensive foul during a timeout sequence.

Johnson faces a potential league fine, drawing comparisons to a previous $15,000 fine issued to Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve.

Angel Reese powered the Atlanta Dream with 18 points and a season-high 17 rebounds, securing her fourth consecutive double-double.

Rhyne Howard added 19 points and six steals, helping Atlanta set season highs by converting 32 of 41 free throw attempts and making 13 3-pointers.

Kiki Iriafen paced the Mystics with 24 points, while Sonia Citron contributed 18 points and six assists after returning from a foot injury.

The loss dropped Washington to a 4-5 record, while Atlanta improved to 7-3, holding the best record in the Eastern Conference.
