The San Diego Padres defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 on Monday night at Petco Park, capitalizing on three consecutive bunt errors in the seventh inning.

Gavin Sheets tied the game with a double that scored Xander Bogaerts, chasing Reds starter Andrew Abbott.

Against reliever Tejay Antone, the Padres laid down three straight bunts. The Reds infield failed to field any cleanly.

Jase Bowen and Samad Taylor reached on singles due to the miscues. Sheets scored the go-ahead run on a safety squeeze by Taylor.

Antone committed a fielding error on a bunt by Freddy Fermin but escaped a bases-loaded jam without further damage.

Fermin homered in the third inning, his third straight game with a home run, driving in two runs.

The win snapped a prolonged slump for San Diego, which had won only two of its previous 13 games.

Recent outfield callups Bowen and Taylor contributed beyond the bunt rally. Taylor drove in two runs with a single in the eighth inning.

Taylor also threw out Matt McLain at home plate to end the second inning. Bowen had two hits and stole two bases, his first in the majors.

Cincinnati lost its fifth straight game and ninth in 11 contests. Abbott struck out six and allowed four hits in six-plus innings.

The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the sixth on a single by Noelvi Marte and a sacrifice fly by Edwin Arroyo off Adrian Morejon, who earned the win.

Padres starter Walker Buehler allowed eight hits over 4 2/3 innings but limited Cincinnati to one run.
