Bayern Munich is close to finalizing a contract extension with defender Konrad Laimer, according to a report by Kicker on June 16, 2026.

The Austrian international's current deal runs until 2027, but both parties have now reached a broad agreement to extend his stay.

The breakthrough comes after roughly eight months of discussions. Talks initially progressed steadily but hit a temporary pause due to disagreements over financial terms.

Productive negotiations have since resumed, and an official announcement is expected soon.

The 29-year-old consistently expressed his desire to remain with the German champions throughout the process.

Bayern was prepared to sell Laimer if no agreement was reached, as the club wanted to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Stabilizing the Right-Back Position

The impending renewal helps stabilize Bayern's right-back position for the coming seasons. The role had been a concern after Sacha Boey failed to meet expectations.

Defensive depth has improved with Josip Stanišić returning from a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen.

Both Laimer and Stanišić have shown an upward trajectory during the 2025/26 season under manager Vincent Kompany.
