The Los Angeles Dodgers starting rotation has thrown 375 2/3 innings through June 2026, leading the major leagues and marking a sharp turnaround from last season, according to FanGraphs and Yahoo Sports.

The increased durability from starters has significantly reduced the burden on the bullpen, with Dodgers relievers combining for just 206 2/3 innings — the fewest of any bullpen in baseball.

Six-Man Rotation Strategy

Manager Dave Roberts implemented a six-man rotation to manage workloads, leveraging the unique roster flexibility provided by two-way player Shohei Ohtani alongside Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Justin Wrobleski, Emmet Sheehan, Roki Sasaki, and Eric Lauer.

This approach contrasts sharply with the 2025 season, when injuries forced the Dodgers to use 40 different pitchers and their bullpen threw the most innings in the majors.

Despite missing injured All-Stars Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, the rotation leads MLB with 8.3 WAR, contributing to a 7.5-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West.

"Obviously, if you get length out of your starters, that's always a good thing," Roberts said.

He noted that managing starter lanes benefits both short-term stability and long-term postseason health, provided the rotation maintains its current performance.

"It's always kind of contingent on the starters doing what they've been doing," Roberts added.

However, a recent setback occurred when Sheehan was pulled after allowing two runs and throwing 36 pitches in the second inning of a 13-5 loss to the Angels.
