Organizers of the Independence Day parade in Washington DC abruptly canceled the event late on the eve of the procession, according to The Guardian.

Sweltering temperatures and intense humidity along the East Coast continue to disrupt celebrations marking the semiquincentennial anniversary of the United States.

The parade, managed by the National Park Service (NPS), was originally planned to begin at 10:30 a.

m. on Saturday.

However, officials called off the procession following an extreme heat warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

Blistering temperatures have impacted regional infrastructure, placing heavy stress on the electricity grid and crippling transportation services for several days.

Thermometer readings in Washington DC are projected to reach 102 degrees Fahrenheit, with heat index values climbing between 110 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Organizers noted that the decision to call off the parade followed extensive consultations with the NPS, the municipal government of Washington DC, and the Trump administration.

The intense weather conditions have also disrupted the Great American State Fair, which is currently being held on the National Mall.

The fair temporarily shut down operations on Friday after emergency personnel treated 44 visitors for various heat-related illnesses.

Local television affiliate NBC reported that 11 individuals required transport to the hospital, with seven of those cases classified as serious.

Freedom 250, the organization managing the fair, confirmed it would delay Saturday's opening hours after previously experiencing low attendance and technical issues with a Ferris wheel.
