British wildcard Arthur Fery knocked out Belgian Zizou Bergs in a five-set thriller at Wimbledon on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

The match, lasting over four hours and 18 minutes, ended Bergs' hopes of reaching the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time.

Bergs Reflects on Missed Opportunities

Bergs admitted he was unsure why the match slipped away despite feeling he was the better player at times.

“I felt multiple times that I was the best player on the court,” Bergs said after the match.

The Belgian frequently built leads but failed to convert break advantages.

“I often put myself in a position to make the difference and win the match, but for one reason or another it did not work out in my favor,” he added.

Bergs acknowledged that Fery played better at crucial moments and deserved the win.

“Ultimately you just have to recognize that it was not good enough and he simply played better at the crucial moments,” Bergs said.

The defeat ended Bergs' seven-match winning streak, which included a title at Eastbourne.

He noted that a heavy match schedule may have contributed to fatigue in the final stages.

“I have indeed played a lot of matches lately. That has advantages and disadvantages,” Bergs said.

“It is also possible that at the end of a match like this it ultimately takes its toll,” he added.

After the match, Bergs wore a Belgian Red Devils shirt to his press conference, mentioning he missed the end of the Belgium-Senegal match.
