Bentley has officially named its first production electric vehicle: the Torcal. The model will make its public debut in London on September 23.

The name Torcal, not Barnato as some predicted, comes from El Torcal de Antequera in Spain, a landscape known for its dramatic limestone formations.

Bentley also notes the name traces back to the Latin word torquere, linking to the modern word torque.

Positioning and Platform

The Torcal is Bentley's fourth standalone model line, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga. It will be the brand's only fully electric offering.

Measuring under 5 meters (197 inches) long, the Torcal sits below the Bentayga in size.

It shares its platform and hardware with the Porsche Cayenne Electric, featuring an 800-volt architecture that can add 100 miles (160 km) of range in seven minutes, likely with a 108 kWh net battery capacity.

Design boss Robin Paige told Autocar to expect 300-350 miles (483-563 km) of range.

Design and Powertrain

The Torcal will showcase Bentley's next design language, first seen on last year's EXP 15 fastback SUV concept.

That concept introduced a monolithic look and a return to upright grilles.

Inside, the cabin will mix traditional Bentley luxury with curved displays and an Audi multifunction column stalk.

Bentley has not revealed power outputs yet, but dual motors and all-wheel drive will be standard.

If it uses motors from the Cayenne Electric, the Torcal could start at 402 hp and top out at 1,139 hp.

The Torcal will not replace the Bentayga; the gasoline SUV will continue with another generation later this decade.

Instead, the Torcal broadens the lineup, offering SUV buyers another choice without forcing them into an EV.
