Marcus Rashford will rejoin Manchester United's first-team setup after the World Cup, according to The Guardian.

The 28-year-old forward is set to begin the upcoming campaign under manager Michael Carrick.

Rashford's relationship with the club had severed under former head coach Ruben Amorim.

His last appearance came in a 2-1 Europa League win against Viktoria Pilzen in December 2024, after which Amorim omitted him from the squad.

Notably, there are no personal issues between Rashford and Carrick. The player will receive a three-week holiday following England's World Cup exit before returning for pre-season.

Manchester United originally wanted to remove Rashford's £17.5m annual salary from the wage bill, but a lack of buyers prevented a permanent transfer.

He spent loans at Aston Villa in January 2025 and Barcelona last season, where he scored in a 2-0 win over Real Madrid to clinch La Liga.

Barcelona had a £26m release clause option but chose to sign Anthony Gordon for £60.7m instead. United now refuse to negotiate another loan with Barcelona.

Carrick, who secured the permanent managerial role in late May after replacing Amorim in January, led United to a third-place finish and Champions League qualification.

"We know we’ve got what it takes to beat the best teams in this league," Carrick told the club website.

United will play six friendlies: vs Wrexham in Helsinki on July 18, Rosenborg on July 24, Atletico Madrid on August 1, Paris Saint-Germain on August 8, Leeds United on August 12, and Milan on August 15.

The Premier League season starts a week later with an away match against Hull City.

If England reaches the World Cup final, Rashford's earliest return would be August 10.
