Newly released body-camera footage shows a 6-year-old boy confronting police after he shot and injured teacher Abby Zwerner at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, on Jan.

6, 2023.

The video captures the moments as officers secured the scene and questioned the child.

In the footage, an officer asks the child about the weapon.

"Where is the weapon?" the officer asked.

"It's over there," the child replied, cursing at the officer.

The child continued to confront police while a teacher restrained him.

The footage also shows gun residue remaining on his hands, according to NBC News.

"If you want a piece of me, come it all, b----," the child said.

The child acknowledged that the gun belonged to his mother and that he took it from her.

"My mom had that," the child said.

"I stole that from my mom," he added.

At another point, the child directed more profanity toward officers while the teacher continued holding him.

"Both of y'all want a f---ing piece of me, b----," the child said.

The footage was initially sealed during the criminal case against former assistant principal Ebony Parker, who faced eight counts of child neglect.

A judge dismissed the case in May, ruling that Parker had not committed a crime under Virginia law.

The judge later ordered the video released with the child's face blurred.

The footage shows the child remaining defiant as officers continued responding to the shooting.

"I don't care if you call backup," the child said.

"I don't care if I go to jail," he said.

Zwerner, who no longer teaches, received $10 million in damages plus interest last year after a jury found Parker grossly negligent for ignoring warnings that the child had a gun in his backpack, according to NBC News.

Zwerner testified that she believed she was dying after being shot.

The jury determined that the shooting could have been avoided and that Parker's conduct led to the incident.

The child's mother, Deja Taylor, was arrested after the shooting on a state felony child-neglect charge and a federal weapons charge.

She was sentenced in 2023 to two years in prison on the child-neglect case and 21 months on the federal charge.
