Patients were safely evacuated on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after a large fire broke out at Malton and Norton District Hospital in North Yorkshire.
Thick plumes of smoke rose over the surrounding town as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Drone footage showed severe structural damage, with the roof of a large facility within the hospital grounds completely destroyed.
Local officials reported no injuries during the incident.
Emergency Response and Safety Measures
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service advised residents to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.
The public was asked to avoid the area to allow clear access for emergency responders.
North Yorkshire Police assisted by establishing local road closures.
The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust confirmed the full evacuation of the facility.
"If you have an appointment at Malton Hospital today, please do not attend," the trust said.

Medical staff are reviewing all scheduled patient visits following the disruption.
"Our teams are reviewing all affected appointments and we will contact you as soon as possible to rearrange or discuss the next steps," the trust added.
The hospital provides inpatient rehabilitation, palliative care, physiotherapy, community midwifery, and speech therapy for adults in the Ryedale region.
The fire forced the temporary closure of the Malton Urgent Treatment Centre as emergency operations continued.
Local civic authorities observed visible signs of the blaze spreading to nearby neighborhoods and voiced support for responders.
"Our thoughts are for the safety of the patients, staff and emergency services at this time," a town council spokesperson said.
