A large fire destroyed six recreational beach cabins on the coast of Wijk aan Zee early Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Emergency services evacuated multiple adjacent properties as a precaution.

Two people were injured in the incident. One victim was hospitalized with burn injuries, while a firefighter required medical evaluation for heat exhaustion.

Emergency Response

Emergency services received the report at approximately 2:00 a. m.

local time. Upon arrival, crews found multiple structures engulfed in flames and upgraded the response level.

Several fire engines were deployed directly onto the sand to combat the blaze. A spokesperson noted the tactical difficulties posed by the coastal environment.

The nighttime blaze attracted a large crowd of onlookers, including evacuated guests and tourists visiting during the summer holidays.

Firefighters brought the fire under control and issued the master signal at 3:44 a. m.

Crews remained on-site afterward to extinguish smoldering debris.

Authorities have not yet released information regarding the cause of the fire.
