Leicester City is set to sign free agent striker Danny Ings on a one-year contract, following the expiration of his previous deal with Sheffield United.

The 33-year-old forward is scheduled to undergo a medical examination in the East Midlands in the coming days to finalize his move to the King Power Stadium.

According to a report by John Percy of The Telegraph on July 9, 2026, the addition of Ings marks the first breakthrough of the summer transfer window for manager Russell Martin.

Martin is rebuilding the Foxes squad after consecutive relegations into League One.

The roster overhaul follows the releases of senior strikers Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka, alongside the loan expirations of Julian Carranza and Dujuan Richards, leaving the club without senior forwards.

Ings joins after a single campaign at Bramall Lane, where he recorded two goals in 24 Championship appearances last season, mostly as a late-game substitute.

The veteran striker previously played under Russell Martin at Southampton and brings Premier League experience to the third-tier side.

Ings last played in League One during the 2010/11 season with AFC Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Leicester City faces further squad adjustments as defender Jannik Vestergaard seeks to terminate his contract 12 months early after failing to report to the Seagrave training ground for pre-season training.
