French President Emmanuel Macron presided over the nation's largest-ever Bastille Day military parade in Paris as a severe heatwave and active wildfires forced authorities across the country to cancel traditional firework displays and celebratory balls.
The annual procession featured nearly 6,700 troops, 98 aircraft, 31 helicopters, and 315 vehicles.

International leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, attended alongside approximately 500 foreign soldiers who marched with French troops.
Macron expressed gratitude to the participating international allies during an address on Monday night prior to the procession.
"All the partners in the coalition of the willing and our Ukrainian friends, who will march with us and illustrate its strategic reawakening and our unity," said Macron.
The event highlighted defensive cooperation following a Western ally meeting regarding the war in Ukraine.
A French official explained the broader geopolitical intent behind the massive scale of the military display.
"A strong signal that Europe is waking up to how dangerous the world has become," said an unnamed French official.
The same official emphasized the triple focus of the unprecedented deployment of military assets down the Champs-Elysées: "France's rearmament, France's strategic autonomy, and Europe's strategic awakening."
European solidarity was also echoed by defense leadership. France's deputy defense minister framed the joint military procession as a clear message to Russia.
