FIFA President Gianni Infantino has secured formal endorsements from more than 200 member associations for his upcoming re-election bid, according to The Guardian.

The overwhelming support positions Infantino to win a fourth term during the FIFA congress in March.

Only a small number of FIFA's 211 member associations have yet to submit their official letters of support before the November 18 candidate deadline.

European Resistance

Germany is currently the highest-profile European nation withholding official backing amid reports of persistent internal pressure on associations to confirm allegiance.

Disquiet remains among several European football bodies after Donald Trump admitted to lobbying FIFA to review a red card issued against striker Folarin Balogun during a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

However, Infantino does not require Europe's full backing to secure his mandate. Major federations like the English Football Association sent their endorsements well ahead of the World Cup.

Opposition from UEFA has intensified over recent governance issues, including the Balogun incident and the barring of Somali referee Omar Artan from the World Cup.

While European federations have discussed backing a rival candidate to spark a debate on FIFA's direction, the likelihood of multiple nations uniting behind a single challenger remains low.

FIFA member associations are scheduled to convene for a meeting in New York on Saturday.

The gathering, led by Infantino, is expected to focus primarily on the financial performance of the World Cup and subsequent financial benefits for member associations rather than recent controversies.
