A designer has reimagined the Toyota Crown as a sporty rear-wheel-drive sports sedan, creating a render that hints at a performance model Toyota hasn't built.

The digital concept, crafted by designer Theottle, uses the current BMW M5 as its foundation because the dimensions of the standard Crown closely match those of the German performance sedan.

While there is no indication Toyota is working on such a model, the render presents a sharp, aggressive front fascia with new headlights, a redesigned grille, splitter, and air intakes.

These changes give the sedan a sporty edge that could suit a TRD or GR badge.

Design Details and Powertrain Possibilities

The render features new door skins with flowing lines that curve from the side skirts toward the rear quarter panels.

At the back, it includes a small lip spoiler, darkened taillights, and a blacked-out bumper.

For a potential powertrain, Toyota's new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine being developed by GR would be a fitting candidate.

This engine is expected to power future models like the MR-2, Celica, and possibly next-generation GR Yaris and GR Corolla.

Toyota has shown commitment to performance sedans, recently filing a trademark for the name Camry Apex in the United States.

However, a Crown sedan with a sharp design alone would not guarantee success; it would need a matching powertrain.

Despite the render's appeal, Toyota likely suspects the numbers wouldn't add up for a high-performance Crown sedan in the US, which is why the standard Crown sedan remains in Japan.
