Three-time Speedway GP world champion Tai Woffinden has announced his retirement from professional racing, citing the need for surgery after injuries sustained during the 2026 season.

Woffinden shared the news in a video on social media on July 18, revealing that a crash in Poland on May 24 worsened his long-standing injury issues.

He also mentioned serious injuries from a previous crash in Krosno in March 2025, which kept him sidelined for the entire last season.

"Hey, after more hospital scans yesterday, I have been told I need surgery following my latest crash in Poland.

After a lot of thought, I have come to the decision that it’s time to retire from professional racing," Woffinden said.

Reflecting on his career, he noted, "When I look back, I see five world titles, GP victories, national titles and team championships.

But more than the trophies, I see the people, the friendships, the laughs..."

Woffinden's career includes three individual world titles in 2013, 2015, and 2018, making him the first and only British rider to achieve this feat.

He began his career with Scunthorpe and Rye House, later joining Wolverhampton and finishing with Sheffield.

Woffinden expressed gratitude to his family, especially his wife Faye, for their support.
