England manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed his commitment to leading the national team into Euro 2028, following the Football Association's full backing after their World Cup semi-final defeat against Argentina on July 17, 2026.

The FA reportedly believes that England's exit was not due to tactical errors, despite heavy criticism of the team's defensive approach after Anthony Gordon's 55th-minute goal in the 2-1 loss.

According to The Independent, Argentina's players and manager Lionel Scaloni were privately surprised by England's negative tactics and defensive substitutions, having expected the introduction of fast attackers like Bukayo Saka or Noni Madueke.

Tuchel defended his decisions but acknowledged the squad became too passive on the pitch, stressing that fundamental changes are needed for long-term success.

"There is still enough to improve, and I am more than happy to do that," Tuchel said.

The German tactician emphasized that his focus remains on developing the squad for the upcoming home European Championship.

"I still feel there is an extra level that we need to conquer and need to step up to the next level to get the big prize," he added.

Tuchel, who succeeded Sir Gareth Southgate to win major trophies, faced intense scrutiny for his tactical choices during the semi-final collapse.

"If it happens then it has to be changed," he said.
