A FIFA spokesperson said the independent Disciplinary Committee is reviewing match reports to determine if Argentina players violated Article 34.3 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code by displaying a banner reading "Las Malvinas son Argentinas" after the match.

"As is standard procedure, FIFA’s independent Disciplinary Committee is currently assessing the match reports and considering the relevant circumstances before deciding on potential further steps based on the FIFA Disciplinary Code," the spokesperson said.

The political controversy followed Downing Street's formal call for an investigation into the post-match celebrations by the defending champions, who advance to play Spain in the final.

United States President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the final match in New Jersey alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino to hand over the trophy.

"We look forward to the final match on Sunday, and I know the president looks forward to attending," said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

The executive mansion highlighted the event as a successful demonstration of North American hosting capabilities.

"This is a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America’s ability to host the world on the grandest stage," Leavitt said.
