Waddingham says there were always rumblings about a return, but she had begun to feel sad about the possibility she might never play Rebecca again.
She follows women's football more than men's and has met Lionesses Leah Williamson and Jill Scott. She calls them pioneers for her daughter's generation.
Standing Ground and Finding Balance
Waddingham has a no-nonsense way about her. In 2024, at the Olivier awards red carpet, a paparazzo asked her to “show leg.”
Her response went viral: “You’d never say that to a man, my friend.”
She explains that the photographer was someone she has respected for 20 years, and they resolved the issue.
She felt sad that the evening was reduced to that moment instead of her live performance, which she considers one of the greatest achievements of her life.
Good manners are important to Waddingham. She says they are more important than work in any form.
She is always mindful that her daughter is watching, so she tries to be elegant and have a firm kindness.

She does not want to be reduced to a single label, whether “camp” or “northern barmaid.” She says there is a lot more to her than that.
