Mercedes-Benz has reportedly paused production of the Electric CLA L in China through its joint venture with BAIC Motor, following dismal sales figures.
According to a report from German outlet MBPassion, the model saw zero deliveries in June 2025.

The automaker sold only 627 examples of the electric sedan in the first half of this year.
Sales peaked in March at 358 units, but dropped sharply to 52 in April and 161 in May.
January and February saw just 35 and 21 units sold, respectively.
Mercedes-Benz has not commented on the report, and it remains unclear how long the production halt will last.

The company may be reassessing its strategy for the Chinese market, where local buyers have shown little interest in the model.
What the CLA L Offers
The Electric CLA L is equipped with an 89 kWh battery pack and boasts a claimed CLTC range of up to 538 miles (866 km).
It supports DC fast charging at up to 325 kW, adding 230 miles (370 km) of range in just 10 minutes.
While these specs are competitive by Western standards, Chinese rivals like BYD have pushed charging speeds further with a 1,500 kW network that can charge from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes.

The CLA L's efficiency and range may not be enough to sway Chinese consumers accustomed to ultra-fast charging options.
