A 34-year-old Dutch soldier died after being struck by a metro train along the Noord/Zuidlijn in Amsterdam on Sunday.
Staff Officer Robert Verveer will be honored by the Netherlands Ministry of Defence during his funeral on Tuesday afternoon at Zorgvlied cemetery.

Verveer joined the armed forces in 2009.
He served as a staff officer for the 12th Ranger Battalion, part of the Air Mobile Brigade, starting in January 2025.
Military officials confirmed that his death was a fatal accident.
Family members expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. They also shared pride in the widespread affection he earned throughout his life and military career.

Colleagues paid tribute to his service online shortly after his passing.
"We will miss Robert enormously," stated the 12th Ranger Battalion.
They described him as an enthusiastic and driven professional with a striking personality and a warm, friendly smile.

The defense organization confirmed that the funeral service will feature official military honors to commemorate Verveer's years of service to the nation.
