The university stated that it sent multiple communications between March and July detailing financial requirements, payment plans, and reporting deadlines.

Tuition for the 2026-2027 academic year stands at approximately $37,996 annually, with Fall semester classes scheduled to begin on August 17.

Affected students reported receiving emails informing them that their places in the incoming class had been revoked.

While Howard University announced plans to review pending financial aid cases and issue refunds for direct payments, it noted that $800 tuition and housing deposits remain nonrefundable.

Students Express Heartbreak and Confusion

Isabella Williams, an incoming student who was prepared to move from Alabama to Washington, D. C.

, voiced her dismay after losing her spot despite expecting pending scholarship funds. “For us to suddenly be unenrolled from what is most of our dream schools is heartbreaking.

It's confusing,” said Williams.

Williams explained that she had secured outside scholarships and submitted documentation to university officials detailing incoming funds anticipated for August.

“I put in so many hours, late nights, to apply for scholarships, to make sure that I could go to the school of my dreams comfortably.

And to have that ripped away isn't fair,” said Williams.

She added that she was expecting institutional awards alongside outside support before being removed from the enrollment list.
