AMC has delayed the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon to 2027, actor Norman Reedus announced ahead of San Diego Comic-Con.
The eight-episode season was previously expected to air in 2026.

The shift means the franchise will not deliver its typical 16 episodes in 2026, breaking a long-standing fan tradition.
While The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 continues its Sunday broadcast on AMC and AMC+, the delay leaves the franchise short of its historical yearly output of two eight-episode mini-seasons.
Production Wrapped in Late 2025
Filming for the Spanish-set final season officially wrapped in late 2025. Reedus took to social media to reflect on his time playing the character.
"Last filming day today for Daryl Dixon," Reedus wrote.
"It's been such a joy for me to play this guy with all of u for this long.
I feel really blessed. Truly.
Thank you all really from my heart."

Following his absence from Comic-Con, Reedus posted set photos alongside co-star Melissa McBride, who plays Carol Peletier, while addressing fans about the revised timeline.
"Daryl Dixon's final episodes are coming 2027! I can't quite believe we're here.
Thank you to every single one of you who joined us on this journey – through the good, the brutal and everything in between," Reedus wrote.
"We've gotten a lot of bruises, scars and concussions along the way. A lot of hard work went into this series, especially the crews.
This last chapter is gonna hit different and hit hard. I can't wait for you all to see them.
See you in 2027. Missing u all at Comicon."
The series follows Daryl after he washes ashore in France, navigating new walker variants and opposing the Pouvoir des Vivants faction while attempting to return to the United States.

A potential fourth season renewal for Dead City could allow AMC to achieve a 16-episode franchise schedule in 2027 instead.
