The Los Angeles Angels have signaled a full trade deadline sell-off by sending controllable assets to the Texas Rangers.

This move indicates that starting pitchers Reid Detmers and Jose Soriano could now be realistic targets for the Chicago Cubs.

Texas acquired catcher Logan O'Hoppe and reliever Chase Silseth from Los Angeles.

The deal demonstrates that the Angels' interim front office is open to trading players who remain under team control for multiple seasons.

That roster strategy directly impacts the Cubs, who are seeking cost-controlled starting pitching. Chicago aims to bolster both its current competitive window and future rotation stability.

Potential Targets for the Cubs

Right-hander Jose Soriano stands out as a prime target for Chicago.

He features a 97 to 98 mph fastball, a 24.8 percent strikeout rate, and a 52.1 percent groundball rate this season.

Soriano remains under team control for 2.5 additional years. His groundball tendencies make him an ideal fit for the Cubs' elite infield defense.

Left-hander Reid Detmers presents another strong option.

He is controlled through the 2028 season and backed by solid underlying metrics, including a 3.27 xERA, a 3.22 FIP, and a 27.4 percent strikeout rate despite a 4.16 ERA.

Prior to a recent five-start slump, Detmers posted a 3.68 ERA and recorded 100 strikeouts over 88 innings across 15 starts earlier this year.

While the front office status of the Angels previously created uncertainty around trading controllable talent, the transaction with the Rangers confirms those assets are actively available on the market.
