NHS data shows a 200% increase in referrals for ADHD diagnoses between 2020 and 2025.

Boys aged 10 to 14 now represent the largest group receiving medication for the condition.

The film, produced by Minnow Films and fronted by NHS psychiatrist Dr. Max Pemberton, questions whether digital environments, highly processed diets, and structured schooling systems act as catalysts for behavioral issues rather than underlying neurological differences.

Medical Experts Weigh In

Dr. Iona Heath, former president of the Royal College of General Practitioners, said, “It is certainly not a medical condition as far as I’m concerned.”

Dr. Sami Timimi, consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist, added, “We’ve replaced corporal punishment with giving [children] a pill.”

To test non-pharmaceutical interventions, the documentary follows a young boy over several weeks.

His family replaces medication with sports, creative outlets, outdoor exposure, reduced screen time, and diet changes.

Dr. Pemberton explained, “As a psychiatrist, I've watched ADHD go from a diagnosis that was only occasionally made and after careful assessment, to one that is increasingly demanded and dispensed, and I wanted to understand why.”

He added, “There's no doubt that the people seeking these diagnoses are genuinely struggling; that isn't in question.
