Scottish runner Laura Muir finished 16th in the women's 5,000-meter final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, battling through a painful stitch that struck mid-race.
The 33-year-old, competing in her home city, collapsed onto the track clutching her side after crossing the finish line.

Muir had chosen the 5,000m to gain experience ahead of the Olympics, as her preferred 1,500m was not on the 2026 program.
"I felt great for the first 2km," she said. "I was loving it and then I got a stitch at 3km."
Despite the discomfort, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist pushed through the final two kilometers to complete the race.
"Trying to run and breathe properly for another 2km was a bit rough but I just wanted to finish," Muir explained.
The local crowd cheered her on throughout, creating what she called a "bittersweet" atmosphere.
"I was like, 'I don't care how slow I'm gonna run, I'm gonna finish,' so I finished but yeah that was a bit brutal and a bittersweet because the crowd were unreal and the atmosphere was phenomenal," she said.
Meanwhile, Inverness-born teammate Megan Keith earned a bronze medal in the same race, a moment Muir missed seeing live.

"I was looking up at the screens and I was gutted I didn't see it," Muir admitted.
Still, she expressed pride in Keith's achievement: "It's amazing for her, she's such a talented athlete and I think she's not necessarily had the exposure or been on the podium yet, so what a way to do it, though.
