Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has responded to widespread social media speculation regarding the alleged firing of the band's longtime turntablist, Sid Wilson.
Root posted a message on his Instagram Stories urging followers to exercise restraint following a July 31, 2026 report by media outlet TMZ claiming Wilson had been dismissed from the group.

The outlet provided no additional details regarding the cause of the alleged split or the source of the claim.
"Stop. Think.
Take a breath. Sit with it for a while.
Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there's more information," said Root.
Although the social media update did not explicitly name Wilson, the timing directly coincided with the unverified rumors.
Wilson, who joined the Iowa-based metal collective in 1999 as DJ Starscream (#0), has not publicly commented on the reports.
Wilson has performed on every major Slipknot studio release, from their 1999 self-titled debut album to their 2022 release, The End, So Far.
Over his career with the band, Wilson contributed to multiple chart-topping albums on the Billboard 200, including All Hope Is Gone, We Are Not Your Kind, and the Grammy-winning track "Before I Forget" from Vol.

3: The Subliminal Verses.
The band has recently been active in the studio working on new music following significant business updates.
In late 2025, Slipknot sold a majority stake in their back catalog to investment firm HarbourView Equity Partners, while members confirmed that new musical arrangements were already being developed.
"We are cooking, we are doing some new music, for sure," said drummer Eloy Casagrande.
"So, we have a lot of material right now. We just have to sit and put everything together, start jamming, and it's happening.
It already happened. It's gonna happen in the future.
So new material is coming, for sure," Casagrande added.

The band continues their ongoing studio sessions while Wilson's official status remains unconfirmed by Slipknot's management.
