The production company Kick It Anywhere will present its new original play, The Jolly Fisherman, at Underbelly, George Square, as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The show runs from August 5 to August 31, 2026, with performances at 12:45 p. m.

Story and Creative Team
Written by John Dinneen and directed by Layla Madanat, the play follows a decade-long friendship between two East London teenagers: Alan, a white working-class boy, and Amir, a second-generation British-Pakistani boy.
Their story unfolds against the backdrop of a local pub converting into a mosque.
The script was inspired by a news report Dinneen read in January 2024 about a derelict building in East London.
This led to two and a half years of development, research, and community interviews in North Street.

Alex Hill plays Alan, while Jonny Khan stars as Amir, following a six-month casting process.
The creative team also includes lighting designer carey chomsoonthorn, costume designer Maariyah Sharjil, and Anya Pearson.
This is Kick It Anywhere's second production, following their debut show Brixton Calling at the Southwark Playhouse.
That production won three Off West End Theatre Awards (OFFIES) for Best Production, Best Sound Design, and Best Design.
