More than 3,000 international athletes will gather in Ottawa this weekend for the second annual Ironman Canada-Ottawa triathlon, prompting extensive road closures and transit adjustments across the capital region.
The event begins at 6:00 a. m.

Sunday with a 3.8-kilometer swim at Britannia Beach, followed by a 180-kilometer bike course through Ottawa and Gatineau.
The race concludes with a 42.2-kilometer marathon that passes Parliament Hill and ends at Major's Hill Park by midnight.
Road Closures and Bridge Restrictions
Major roads, including Carling Avenue, Wellington Street, Sussex Drive, and the Kichi Zībī Mīkan, will see full or partial closures starting as early as 3:00 a.
m. Sunday.
The Alexandra Bridge will close in both directions from 6:00 a. m.
Sunday until 6:00 a. m.
Monday, while the Champlain and Chaudière bridges will shut down from 6:00 a. m.
to 11:00 a. m.

The Portage Bridge will have southbound closures from 5:00 a. m.
to 11:00 a. m.
and northbound closures from 5:00 a. m.

Sunday. The Pretoria Bridge will be closed in both directions from 6:00 a.
m. Sunday until midnight.
OC Transpo bus routes that intersect the racecourse will be detoured throughout Sunday.
On Colonel By Day, buses will run on a Saturday schedule with enhanced service on select routes, while O-Train Line 1 will operate on a reduced weekday schedule.
City Hall, ServiceOttawa client service centers, and Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed on Monday, August 3.
Curbside garbage, green bin, and recycling collection scheduled for Monday will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week, while multi-residential pick-ups remain on regular schedule.
Most major shopping centers, grocery stores, and national museums will remain open on the holiday, though some may have reduced hours.
The Bytown Museum will host a free public celebration commemorating Lt. -Col.
