Nissan is making bold claims about its all-new Elgrand, a minivan designed to take on the Toyota Alphard in Japan's luxury MPV segment.
The fourth-generation model is powered by Nissan's efficient e-Power hybrid system, but the headline feature is its advanced noise-cancellation technology.

According to Nissan, the new Elgrand is the first vehicle to feature an integrated Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system that eliminates unwanted sounds from both the road and the hybrid powertrain.
Most cabin ANC systems only address road noise, so tackling the powertrain as well is what Nissan says sets this system apart.
How the System Works
The technology, developed with Panasonic, uses acceleration sensors placed around the vehicle to detect vibrations closely tied to cabin noise.
Once these vibrations are read, the system generates opposing control sounds through the car's speakers, canceling the offending frequencies before they reach occupants' ears.
Nissan explains that canceling road noise and engine noise requires different control methods due to their unique frequencies.
Road noise is more difficult to control because it is random, with constantly shifting frequency and amplitude.

The system is said to be effective at canceling both types of noise, though its real-world performance remains to be experienced.
Panasonic has supplied ANC systems to more than 60 different models, and this new development could appear in other production vehicles in the future.
While the Elgrand won't be sold in the U. S.
, it remains an important model for Nissan in Japan, where it helped create the luxury MPV segment.
In recent years, the Elgrand has been outsold by the Toyota Alphard, which moved 81,357 units in the 2025 fiscal year compared to just 1,163 for the outgoing Elgrand.

With a radical new design and the e-Power hybrid system, Nissan hopes the new Elgrand will regain its competitive edge.
