Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow expressed immense confidence in his newly restructured team on Wednesday during his first news conference of the 2026 season.

He declared the current roster as the most talented group since his arrival.

The Bengals revamped their defensive lineup this offseason following a three-year playoff drought.

They brought in critical reinforcements to stabilize a unit that frequently surrendered high-scoring leads over the past three seasons.

Cincinnati executed a major trade by sending the No. 10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Giants for defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

The team also signed safety Bryan Cook to a three-year, $40.25 million contract.

Burrow addressed his previous frustrations from December 31 and highlighted his renewed optimism regarding the franchise's aggressive front-office acquisitions.

"We don't want to be in the spot we are in now, so something's got to change," said Burrow.

The quarterback shifted his tone significantly while speaking amidst voluntary workouts, highlighting the massive talent upgrade across the defensive line and secondary.

"We have everything we need in that locker room," said Burrow.

Burrow elaborated on the overall depth of the roster, noting that the team secured premier talent at multiple defensive positions during free agency.

"I think this is the most talented roster that we've had since I've been here," said Burrow.

The quarterback specifically praised the acquisition of Lawrence at the tenth draft spot, expressing great enthusiasm for the impactful trade.

"I was fired up, obviously," said Burrow.

Burrow further commended the front office for making a rare, high-impact NFL trade to silence public and media criticisms.

"The front office has taken a lot of heat from the fans, the public, the media. We can put all of that behind us.

They went and made it happen with free agency … We don't know a ton about these rookies yet, but it seems like they brought the right kind of guys in.

And then obviously with Dexter, making a trade like that, that doesn't happen a ton in the NFL.

So it's exciting to see," said Burrow.

Burrow also touched upon his reduced involvement in personnel decisions this offseason, acknowledging past collective shortcomings while embracing the elevated energy in the locker room.

"I was less involved this year than in years past," said Burrow.

Beyond personal statistics, Burrow voiced his long-term ambition to act as an organizational ambassador to elevate the global profile of the franchise.

"The first couple of years, when you see how the league pushes certain teams and puts certain teams in big spots," said Burrow.

When informed he is 48 touchdowns away from passing Andy Dalton's Bengals franchise record, Burrow expressed absolute confidence in reaching that milestone this year.

"I'm pretty close to the Bengals franchise touchdown record.

I think I'm 50 or something away, so that would be nice to break this year," said Burrow.

Burrow reacted with supreme confidence when learning that exactly 48 passing touchdowns would break Dalton's career mark of 204.

"Doable," said Burrow.

Burrow emphasized the critical need for Cincinnati to recapture the explosive downfield passing game that defined their successful 2021 and 2022 campaigns.

"We've been great in third down and red-zone situations, but we've got to get back to being the explosive offense that we were in '21 and '22," said Burrow.

Burrow also welcomed the return of veteran backup quarterback Joe Flacco, expressing slight surprise that other franchises did not vie for his services.

"I love being around Joe and watching him play.

To have somebody behind me who can step in and play the way he did last year, I think will put our team in a good position," said Burrow.

Burrow reserved high praise for new safety Bryan Cook, telling Geoff Hobson of Bengals. com that Cook's leadership was evident from the moment he arrived.

"You can tell that he's (Cook) going to set a standard in that room and make everybody live up to it and put pressure on everybody if they don't," said Burrow.

Former Bengals passer Ken Anderson endorsed Burrow's pursuit of the touchdown record, citing the modern passing climate and Burrow's proven track record.

"Heck yeah.

The way the passing game is nowadays and he's showed he's put up those numbers before," said Anderson.

Anderson also marveled at Burrow's all-time NFL record completion percentage, attributing the success to immense natural talent and dedicated offseason preparation.

"That just shows you how accurate he is," said Anderson.

Bengals cornerback Dax Hill shared his positive impressions of Cook, noting that the former Chiefs safety brings invaluable championship experience to the secondary.

"Committed. Locked in.

Good dude," said Hill.

Newly acquired safety Bryan Cook expressed his focus on mastering the defensive playbook and building strong relationships within the Cincinnati locker room.

"I'm doing the best I can learning the system and learning the plays, learning the guys and the locker room," said Cook.

Cook noted that the extensive time remaining before the regular season opener provides an essential window to build team cohesion.

"It feels like forever to the first game," said Cook.

Cook recognized the potent nature of the Bengals' offense and underscored the defense's role in securing decisive victories.

"You need a quarterback first and foremost, and weapons on offense," said Cook.

Cook emphasized his interpersonal approach to leadership, stating that he aims to be a dependable teammate by understanding the unique dynamics of his peers.

"I'm listening to the guys, trying to understand where they're coming from and how they move," said Cook.

Cook concluded by stating that the ultimate objective for the roster is to break through existing barriers and achieve unprecedented franchise glory.

"Now it's just trying to get over this hump so you can say you did something that's never been done in franchise history," said Cook.
