He endured a high-impact four-wheel landing and was subsequently pushed into the trackside barriers by Christian Ho of Rodin Motorsport.
Medical personnel immediately transported Benavides to a local hospital for comprehensive evaluation. Subsequent medical imaging revealed the extent of his spinal trauma.
From his hospital bed, Benavides shared an update on social media regarding the unexpected severity of the injuries.
He stated, "3 gebroken wervels door zo'n klein ongeluk; het lot heeft het zo bepaald."
The driver remained hospitalized following the diagnosis. AIX Racing has not yet announced a replacement driver or a definitive timeline for his recovery.
The physical layout of the Monaco street circuit, characterized by high curbs and minimal runoff zones, elevates the risk of vertical spinal compression injuries during airborne impact scenarios.
While safety advancements like the HANS device protect the neck, vertical G-forces from hard landings continue to transfer directly through the racing seat into the spine.
The on-track incident preceded additional post-race controversy.
Initial race winner Hiyu Yamakoshi faced disqualification due to a technical infringement, handing the victory to Gerrard Xie.
Meanwhile, Dutch Formula 2 competitor Laurens van Hoepen experienced a difficult weekend under the same event program after a qualifying collision forced him to start from the rear.
Van Hoepen, who currently drives for Trident, expressed his single-minded dedication to motorsport over the pursuit of public fame or digital media attention.
"Ik ben nog heel onbekend, zeker in vergelijking met Max Verstappen," said Van Hoepen.
The young driver prefers focusing on on-track execution rather than managing his growing social media profile, which currently commands nearly 20,000 followers.
"Het liefst doe ik gewoon mijn ding op de baan. Ik doe mijn best, maar ben geen ster met social media.

"Dat moet wat beter, maar ik wil niet in de Formule 1 om beroemd te worden. Het gaat mij puur om het racen," he explained.
The Formula 2 paddock environment in Monaco offered a stark contrast to the glamorous public perception of Monte Carlo, resembling an enclosed parking structure.

To maintain his concentration amidst the loud music and constant noise of the paddock garage, the driver utilizes earplugs during preparation.

Van Hoepen has faced frequent comparisons to reigning World Champion Max Verstappen since the early stages of his karting career.

"Heel cool om voor het eerst in zo'n mooi auto te rijden. Dat is iets waar je als kind van droomt.

Securing a permanent Formula 1 racing seat remains his primary target, though he acknowledges the demanding progression required to achieve it.

Following a previous crash at the Wall of Champions in Montreal, Van Hoepen maintains a pragmatic perspective regarding the unforgiving nature of street circuits.
"Zelfs als zo'n muur me elimineert, dan vervloek ik hem niet. Nou ja, op dat moment wel even, maar dan vloek ik meer tegen mezelf.
