Dutch telecommunications provider DELTA has reportedly defied a mandatory broadcast ban by continuing to transmit RTL Germany's live coverage of the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix qualifying session to its subscribers on June 7, 2026.
The broadcast restriction stems from exclusive media rights held by streaming service Viaplay in the Netherlands through 2029.

Competitors Ziggo, KPN, and Odido complied by blocking the German channel, but DELTA viewers confirmed on social media that the live coverage remained fully accessible.
Enforcement of Territorial Licensing
Formula One Management and Viaplay pressured RTL Group to enforce territorial licensing, compelling Dutch television providers to black out the German network during live sessions.
This marks the first time such large-scale enforcement has occurred in the Netherlands.

Providers received two compliance options from RTL Group: either blacking out the channel with an information screen or temporarily switching the signal to an Austrian version of RTL that does not broadcast Formula One.
KPN utilized the Austrian signal alternative, whereas Ziggo manually applied a blackout screen with explanatory text for its viewers.
DELTA has not issued an official response regarding the unblocked Monaco Grand Prix coverage.

Media reports indicate that the failure to comply with the directives from RTL Group exposes the provider to potential legal action, financial damage claims from rights holders, or a complete distribution ban of the media group's channel portfolio.
