Leigh Leopards secured a crucial 40-16 victory over Toulouse Olympique at Ernest Wallon Stadium on Saturday, June 27, 2026, amid a severe European heatwave with temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius.
Winger Josh Charnley crossed the line four times, extending his career try-scoring tally to 276, as the Leopards moved within two competition points of Hull KR, Wakefield Trinity, and St Helens in the Super League standings.
The match featured four hydration breaks due to the extreme conditions, and Toulouse forward Joe Cator required first-half treatment for heatstroke.
Charnley opened the scoring within five minutes and completed his hat-trick by the 23rd minute. Additional tries came from Jacob Alick-Wiencke, Innes Senior, Tesi Niu, and Liam Horne.

"Both players want to play but it's just whether or not it's the right thing to do," Lam said.
"They could potentially get infected and bust back open."
The return of Umyla Hanley and Tesi Niu to the starting lineup provided crucial depth, allowing the coaching staff to manage the risks.
"The smart thing to do on a five day turnaround would be not to risk that," Lam added.
"Having said all of that, we should probably get Umyla Hanley and Tesi Niu back into the starting 13."
Heatwave Precautions and Tactical Focus
The club implemented strict medical protocols to combat the forecasted extreme temperatures, managing player rotation and nutritional intake to prevent heat-related illnesses.
"They're expecting 39 or 40 degrees on Saturday," Lam said before the match. "And if it's not a heat stroke, it's cramp."
Lam emphasized the need for a strong start after a disappointing loss to Hull KR, where the team failed to execute in both halves.
"We didn't start well in either half against Hull KR, so that's something we've identified," he said.
"We need to go there with a real steel focus and make sure that we play the game that we have been playing really well over the last two months."
The Leopards also reviewed footage of their previous golden-point encounter against Toulouse, where they surrendered a 20-point lead before winning in extra time.
"The game's not over at any stage against them because they certainly don't give up," Lam noted.
