Country music legend Dolly Parton made a surprise public appearance in Cornersville, Tennessee, to celebrate the grand opening of Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop.
The event drew hundreds of fans, travelers, and community members to the new roadside destination.
The travel center is a partnership between Parton, Danny Nozell, and Gregory H. Sachs.
A New Kind of Travel Stop
The facility redefines the traditional travel center experience by offering a full-service restaurant, grab-and-go barbecue, an ice cream counter, and a schedule of 52 musical and celebratory events.
"Well, the doors are open, and I could not be prouder.
Whether you are hauling loads, hauling the family, or just passing through, we built this place for you," said Parton.
The venue honors Parton's lifelong connection to traveling across the country, from her early childhood in East Tennessee to her multi-decade international touring career.
"Good food, real rest, a little music, and people who are genuinely glad you stopped in—that's what the road has always deserved, and that is what you will find here.
Welcome home," she added.
The celebration launches a week of festivities leading up to a larger event scheduled for July 3.
First Public Appearance After Health Challenges
This ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the first time the 80-year-old artist has stepped out publicly since health challenges forced her to cancel her upcoming Las Vegas residency.
"I've spent my whole life traveling on the road, so anyway, I wanted to welcome you and say thanks," Parton told attendees.
During her address, Parton lightheartedly referenced Buc-ee's, a Texas-based competing travel center chain.
"I'm sure some of you want to know why I wanted a truck stop. Well, I couldn't leave it to beavers.
I had to throw my spurs in there myself," she said.
Parton clarified that she does not intend to aggressively rival established roadside corporations. "We don't think we'll have to.
We're going to have everything you want or need," she emphasized.
The opening marks a major milestone for the singer following a period of medical rest and localized treatments.
Parton originally postponed her Las Vegas performances in October 2025 before officially canceling the residency dates entirely in May to allow more recovery time.
"As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures.
As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it's not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon," she said.
Public concern intensified after an emotional social media message from her sister, Freida, asking for prayers.
Parton later released a video message to reassure the public, dismissing severe health rumors and stating she is "OK."
She continued to minimize the gravity of her undisclosed treatments, saying "nothing major" and maintaining her characteristic humor: "I ain't dead yet."
Parton stated her ultimate goal is to become "stage-performance ready" and expressed gratitude for fan support: "The good news is I'm responding really well to meds and treatments and I'm improving every day.
I'm doing really well, and they assure me that everything I have is treatable, so I'm going with that, and I just want you to know I thank you for standing by me and that I will always love you."
