Erling Haaland is paying tribute to his mother at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Manchester City striker wears 'Braut Haaland' on his Norway national team jersey, adding his mother's maiden name.

Gry Marita Braut, Haaland's mother, is a former Norwegian heptathlon champion. The change marks a departure from his club shirt, which simply reads 'Haaland'.

A Personal Gesture on a Global Stage

Norway is competing in its first World Cup knockout rounds since 1998. Haaland has scored four goals during the group stage, becoming the nation's all-time top scorer.

The 25-year-old was born in Leeds, England, on July 21, 2000. Both his parents are Norwegian, making him eligible to represent Norway under FIFA rules.

His father, Alfie Haaland, played for Leeds United and Manchester City before retiring in 2003. The family returned to Scandinavia when Erling was young.

Haaland committed to Norway after progressing through the youth ranks. He made his senior international debut in September 2019.
