The Minnesota Wild traded defenseman Jake Middleton to the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
In return, they acquired veteran winger Blake Coleman and veteran defenseman Olli Maatta, according to league sources.
As part of the deal, Minnesota sent a 2027 third-round pick, a 2028 fourth-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick to Calgary.
The Flames will retain 50 percent of Coleman's salary, which is $2.45 million for the upcoming season.
Middleton is entering the second year of a four-year contract worth $4.35 million annually.
His no-move clause became a modified no-trade clause on Wednesday, allowing the trade to happen after Minnesota concluded free agency without any signings.
The 30-year-old stay-at-home defenseman recorded 21 goals and 82 points in 322 career games with the Wild.
However, he struggled in the recent postseason, being on the ice for 13 goals against during the playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche.
“I watch my shifts every game. I go back and watch them,” Middleton said.
“There’s obviously times that you make a poor decision and it goes in the net.
I don’t think that was the case for the majority of the playoffs, but yeah, it definitely felt like any time a puck went in the net, I was on the ice.”
Middleton expressed frustration but defended his physical effort. “It was a s—y feeling.

If I was making mistakes and I wasn’t playing my balls off, I would feel a lot worse sitting up here talking to you guys.
But I do think it was just a situation where they just went in, you know?”
Minnesota acquires the 34-year-old Coleman, who has a $4.9 million cap hit through 2027.
He won consecutive Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning and produced 20 goals and 35 points in 69 games last season for Calgary.
The Wild also added Maatta, a 31-year-old left-shot defenseman on a $3.5 million contract through 2027-28.
He posted two goals and 14 points in 21 games for the Flames last season after a trade from the Utah Mammoth.
