A norovirus outbreak has sickened 125 passengers and crew members aboard the Ruby Princess cruise ship, according to the U.
S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The vessel docked in San Francisco on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The CDC reported that 102 of the 3,032 passengers and 23 of the 1,144 crew members were infected during a 20-day round-trip voyage to Canada and Alaska.
The predominant symptoms were vomiting and diarrhea.
Response and Sanitation Measures
Princess Cruises confirmed that the ship's operator isolated ill passengers and elevated disinfection procedures.
The vessel underwent comprehensive cleaning and sanitation at San Francisco's Pier 27 before its next scheduled journey.
"Our crew responded promptly by implementing enhanced sanitation protocols across the ship. Cases have since decreased and remain low," Princess Cruises said in an official statement.
This incident follows a separate norovirus outbreak on the Caribbean Princess in May, which sickened 160 people.
A non-related, deadly hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius also concluded that same month.
